Chinese Republic Polychrome Vase Qianlong Mark

Lot 0011 Details

Description
A large, thinly-potted vase with fine painting of an Emperor with servants and a scholar. He is being fanned by a beauty. There is a scholarly table with scrolls, art objects, and a lake Tai stone. The paintings are very colorful. A large porcelain baluster shaped vase with a slight round unglazed foot. The glaze, which has a fairly white color without a bluish tint, is thick, smooth, and looks shiny. The iron red enamel in the design has a dry feeling. The painting is extensive and professionally done. There is a painting of dripping jewels at the mouth and a swastika border above the foot. The base is glazed. There is a circular cartouche near the emperor at the shoulder of the vase. The base has the word CHINA written in iron red. There is also a hand-painted square Qianlong reign mark in iron red on the base. There is also a paper label that reads MADE IN CHINA #247 on the base. MEASUREMENTS 13 5/8” (34.6 cm) tall x 5” (12.7 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lb 13.9 oz (1305 g) CONDITION The vase was drilled for a lamp and so there is a drilled hole in the base. Otherwise, there are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There are kiln flaws such as bumps, black spots, dimples, and pimple reserves. The enamels are fresh and bright. A large and decorative vase with much intricate painting. The colors will brighten up a dark space.
