Item Details
Description
Region: Kashan, Persia. Date: circa 1900 - 1925. Knot Density (sq inches): 154. Weave: hand-knotted. Warp (foundation): cotton. Pile: wool. Dimensions (ft): 4'7" x 6'8". Dimensions (cm): 139 x 203. Production time: 6 months. Short cut pile with significant and important colours that appeal to European and North American tastes. Natural Vegetable dyes. Vibrant colours act as the perfect backdrop to any sophisticated setting. ____________Kashan rugs come from Central Persia (present-day Iran) and have a long textile tradition, including hand-knotted rugs. The residents make these classic Kashan rugs of more than 80 surrounding villages. Superior rugs were manufactured here during the Safavid dynasty (1502-1736). The famous Ardebil rug, which can be seen at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, is considered one example. After a period of decline and subsequently, toward the end of the 19th century, high-quality rugs from this region attracted unwavering demand once again. The patterns consist of beautifully designed medallions, niches, trees and figural motifs and all-over floral motifs. The dominating colours are blue, red and beige.
