Description
SIGNED "J.P. SMITH", ALEXANDRIA, VA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt glazed, "1/2" gallon capacity stamp, slight ovoid form with single incised shoulder ring and squared rim, brushed cobalt horizontal floral decoration full round. Made by the Milburn Pottery, Wilkes St., Alexandria, VA for merchant James P. Smith (1812-1873). 1850-1854. 8" H, 5" D rim.

Provenance: Recently discovered in North Carolina.
Condition
Excellent condition, rim with one shallow top-edge chip and a small outer-edge chip, base edge with two minor chips.
