Antique Mexican Shrine of Santo Niño de Atocha
painted wood construction, the base states the piece is from San Juan del Rio in the central Mexican state of Querétaro, and is dated 16 de sep de 1912; the shrine consists of two doors that open to revel a statuette of the Christ Child as a boy pilgrim with bucket, staff and drinking gourd. This depiction is of medieval Spanish origin and made its way to the New World in the 16th century.
