Description
ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE PEARLWARE TRANSFER-PRINTED "SPORTING SERIES" CERAMIC PLATTER, having blue transfer design of a "Tiger Hunt" featuring a standing tiger in foreground with a group of unsuspecting hunters being leapt on by a second tiger, having floral and scroll border decoration. Impressed "WOOD" to underside. Enoch Wood & Sons, Burslem, England. 1818-1846. 18 3/4" x 14 5/8".
Mostly undamaged, having expected wear with short scattered scratches from use. Having some manufacturing flaws including a glazed over chip to rim, a few glaze flakes/skips, and stilt marks, as made.
Literature: Transferware Collectors Club database pattern #3041.
Provenance: From the private collection of Donna and Wayne Nickum, Clifton, VA.
Condition
Mostly undamaged, having expected wear with short scattered scratches from use. Having some manufacturing flaws including a glazed over chip to rim, a few glaze flakes/skips, and stilt marks, as made.
