Vintage Quilt c1930s Hubert Ver Mehren Giant Dahlia. 78in x 80in. Machine pieced and hand quilted. Large medallion style Giant Dahlia was designed by Hubert ver Mehren. While the yellow and orange palette would have been typical of the many kits he produced and sold, the pink solid, and blue print are unique. This example has 2 borders: 3.25in solid orange inner border, and the beautiful 6in wide pieced Art Deco style outer border. This would have been, and still is, considered a complicated design to piece by sewing machine. As a result the center is heavily quilted, to keep it flat. Has thin cotton batting with solid orange backing. The orange bias edge was applied by machine, as well. It is only minimally hand quilted.
