Unusual 19th century staghorn netsuke in a shape of tokkuri - a sake bottle - imitating a well known ceramic shape with three indents, one containing a low relief carving of Daikoku - a God of Wealth. Superb clever and elegant carving in Japanese taste elevating a simple item to be viewed as an art object. Excellent quality carving, ingenious himotoshi arrangement - the neck comes out to reveal a hole at the lower end for the cord that then goes through the side of the bottle. Subtle light staining, great patina. Height 1 5/16 inches.
