    Description
    Cal. 58. NSN. This is an example of the William W. Welch contract, only marked "U.S. / NORFOLK" w/ eagle & "1863" on the lock. Welch was located in Norfolk, CT. This example is in the standard configuration of pattern 1863 Springfield w/ 40" bbl. & clamping bands. Bbl. has "VP" eagle head proofs. CONDITION: good overall. Metal is a mix gray/brown mottled patina w/ rust & pitting. Rear sling swivel is missing. Ramrod is reproduction. Stock is sound & well fit w/ numerous cosmetic blemishes, lg. hairline opposite lock. No discernable cartouches. Mechanically fine w/ good discernable rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (01-17302/JS). ANTIQUE. $600-800.
