1864-Dated Civil War Embroidered Needlework Sampler
1864-Dated Civil War Period, Embroidered Needlework Sampler Initials Signed, "B T", Very Fine.
This Civil War "1864" Dated, embroidered Needlework Sampler made by "B T." This Sampler measures 12.5" x 19.5" and is tipped to larger linen matte of 17" x 21" for display. White cotton linen fabric and a dark gray, green and tan thread are used to display five full alphabets in different text styles, with sewn images of Birds, Dogs and a Cornucopia below. At the bottom center is the date "1864" below the maker's initials "B T." There are some scattered minor holes and wear within the fabric and along the left far edge and center and backed on a heavy white card as shown Needlework Samplers allowed young women to practice their craft, and have become highly collected for their social history and window to the past.
