Description
ENGLISH CERAMIC FACE JUGS / PITCHERS, LOT OF TWO, comprising one having a Bacchus-like figural head wearing a crown of fruit and leaves with a molded monkey handle, and one featuring a red-faced smiling satyr mask sporting a goatee with a bump-molded body, each having bright hand-painted polychrome decoration. Unmarked. Staffordshire and other areas. First half 19th century. 7 1/4" HOA.
Bacchus example with areas of restoration; satyr example with minor flake to spout, some minor wear to raised areas/bumps, and some crazing with light discoloration.
Provenance: From the John & late Evelyn Teague collection, Bloomingdale, IN.
