Poisons. FONTANA, Gasparo Ferdinando Felice. Traité sur le Venin de la Vipère, sur les Poisons Américains, sur le Laurier-Cérise et sur quelques autres Poisons Végétaux. On a joint des Observations sur la Structure Primitive du Corps Animal, différentes expériences sur la reproduction des Nerfs et la description d'un nouveau canal de l'Oeil... avec plusieurs planches.Florence, et Paris, Nyon l'Ainé, 1781
2 voll. in-4to, mm. 280x220; Cartonatura coeva alla rustica; pp. 2, XXVIII, 2 bianche, 329, XI di indici; pp. 4, 6, 373. Le pagine di indice dal V al XI, del secondo volume, sono state anticipate alla fine del primo volume, 10 tavv. in rame al termine del primo vol. ripiegate f.t., eseguite su disegno di Giovanni Fabbroni. Timbro coevo di appartenenza ai frontespizi. Freschissimo esemplare a pieni margini in barbe.
Importante prima edizione francese, molto ampliata rispetto al testo apparso originariamente nel 1767. Hirsch: “First French edition and first editions of the important additional tracts.” Quest’opera rappresenta il punto di partenza delle ricerche moderne sui veleni dei serpenti e include anche i lavori di Fontana sull’anatomia dei nervi e sulla loro rigenerazione: il chimico e fisico roveretano, autore di ricerche originali e importantissime nel campo della chimica dei gas, condensò in questa edizione anni di ricerche sugli effetti del veleno della vipera, sperimentando il morso di oltre 3000 vipere su 4000 animali, nonchè sugli effetti di altre sostanze venefiche, tra cui una sostanza affine al curaro. Gorin: “He was the first to use chemical fixatives to preserve retinal tissue for examination. He found neural and supporting elements in the retina and described retina vessels.” Il lotto viene venduto provvisto di licenza d'esportazione.

Important first French edition, very extended, compared to the text originally appeared in 1767. Hirsch: "First French edition and first editions of the important additional tracts." This work is the starting point of modern research on poisons of snakes and also includes Fontana works on the anatomy of the nerves and their regeneration: the chemical and physical Rovereto, author of original research and important in the chemistry of gases, condensed in this edition years of research on the effects of the venom of the viper, experiencing the bite vipers in 4000 over 3000 animals, as well as the effects of other poisons, including a substance similar to curare.Gorin: "He was the first to use chemical fixatives to preserve retinal tissue for examination.
