Description
An oil on canvas in the manner of Philip James de Loutherbourg, RA (1740-1812) (also known as "Philippe-Jacques" or "Philipp Jakob" "Lauterborough" and "the Younger"), this work shows three small figures -a man and a woman carrying an infant, suggesting the "Rest on the Flight into Egypt"- caught crossing a river in front of a ruined castle, just above a waterfall, in the middle of a tempest with a huge crooked tree looming over the scene.
