A pair of Nicholas II Russian 84 Zolotnik (875 standard) silver gilt and cloisonné enamel napkin rings, Moscow 1898-1908 by Dmitry Nikolaievich Nikolaev
each of circular form with applied rope twist edges, the body with polychrome cloisonné enamel work of trailing foliate scrolls and turquoise roundels. Marked with maker’s mark ?H and kokoshnik for assayer Ivan Sergeyevich Lebedkin (active 1898-1914), also with later Soviet era post-1958 control marks for Riga by M103 (untraced). (2)
Diameter – 5.4 cm / 2 inches
Height – 4.1 cm / 1.75 inches
Weight – 95 grams / 3.05 ozt
Mark: Ivanov 3000 “owner of a silverware factory, then 2nd half of the XIX century; in 1897 at the factory there worked 8 workers and 10 boys, there was manufactured goods for 10,000 rubles.”
The attribution to Nikolaev rather than the similar mark of D.P. Nikitin (Ivanov 2965) who worked at the same time with similar wares is based upon the shaped of the ? in the makers mark.
