Typed carbon, unsigned retained file copy. 11x8½".

Undated but probably Spring 1963 as trial approached. From the outset, Bruce contended that he had been framed and that the heroin reputed to belong to him was planted by one of the officers, Sgt. John White. Lenny rants as only he can do, largely in all caps. He signs in type, THE FUHRER.

In part: "If the aphorism is 'Look Lenny, we're just doing a job' - THAT'S COOL. NOBODY CAN GET BUGGED BEHIND THAT SCENE. BUT IF ... TO DO THAT JOB YOU HAVE TO BE CRIMINAL IN YOUR BEHAVIOR THEN CAN'T YOU SEE THE INSANITY IN IT? NOBODY HAS TESTIFIED AS YET, BUT MY ATTORNEYS HAVE TOLD ME THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET UP ON THE STAND AND SAY THAT HE SAW ME THROW AWAY A PACKET OF WHAT LATER TURNED OUT TO BE 'HEROIN'...WHICH IS A LIE! LOPEZ AND LEZNICK WERE WITH ME, SEARCHED ME, ARRESTED ME AND THEN 40 MINUTES LATER A MR. WHITE [JOHN] CAME BY AND SAID - 'LOOK WHAT I FOUND'. IF ONE OF YOU SWEARS TO THAT LIE, THEREBY GIVING MORTAR TO THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A CAGE SOMEONE APPARENTLY WANTS TO PUT ME IN...THE [more lies]...I am pure.....yon stands the murders...I promise you leniency - but only if you do your jobs - no more."
