Description
Second half 19th century, 61 x 60 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
Nearly always woven by the Yomut tribes, such small square rugs composed of four knotted triangular panels and a flatwoven centre are called bokce. It is assumed that they were used to store flat bread. Three of the four knotted sections were folded towards the centre like the flaps of a large envelope and stitched together, one flap remained open at the top. – Good condition.
