Lot 0377 Details

Description
A mid Victorian gold garnet and split pearl necklace and earrings. The pendant designed as a circular and oval garnet cabochon cross with cannetille surrounds, split pearl accents, a similarly-designed drop and later base metal chain, together with a pair of similarly-designed earrings. Length of pendant 9.6cms. Length of chain 40cms. Length of earrings 4.1cms. Total weight 28.6gms.
Condition
  • Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Pendant testing variously as between 12-16ct gold, with base metal chain. Earrings testing as approximately 15ct gold, with low carat gold hook fittings.
  • Possible replacement gems.
  • Appears to have been adapted from a larger item of jewellery, with evidence of alterations/ repairs.
  • Some scratches and dents to the reverse.
  • Garnets appear foil-back.
  • Garnets generally well matched. Drop to pendant appears a more purplish hue.

  • Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.

  • Earrings with hook fittings for pierced ears.
  • Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
