Description
Pair of American Classical Carved Mahogany Pier Tables, early 19th c., labeled "Anthony Quervelle, Philadelphia", original white marble top, bolection frieze drawer, Ionic columnar supports, dished oval marble plinth, half columns flanking mirrored back, gadrooned paw feet, h. 36 in., w. 45 in., d. 21 1/4 in. Note: The rare pair of pier tables offered here features distinctive Philadelphia aspects including the realistic paw feet, gadrooned detailing, and an overall dimensional quality compared to New York or Boston examples. Each table is labeled by cabinetmaker Anthony G. Quervelle and has a unique marble insert on the lower plinth, probably to hold an ewer or other Classical decorative object.
