Lot 0031A Details

Description
This would have to be one of the rarest items that has been owned by the Princess of Wales. This little personal Prayer Book measuring just 1 1/8" x 1 7/8" was owned by Diana Spencer and she has written her name on the inside cover. It has a sterling silver cover, was gifted by her “Granny” at a time when Lady Diana was very low in her young life, when her mother left. Lady Diana shared with her Grandmother whom she called “Granny” on many occasions the pain she was suffering over her mother leaving as she had to be the strong one of the family and felt under tremendous pressure to be the one to stand in the gap for her siblings. The little Prayer Book was later gifted to a young girl who was going through a number of operations at Great Ormond Hospital in London and who Princess Diana became close friends with and has since passed away.Diana, Princess of Wales (born Diana Frances Spencer; 1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997), was a member of the British royal family. She grew up in Park House, situated on the Sandringham estate, and was educated in England and Switzerland. In 1975, after her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer, she became known as Lady Diana Spencer.Diana was involved with dozens of charities including London's Great Ormond Street Hospital for children, of which she was president from 1989. She also raised awareness and advocated ways to help people affected with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and mental illness.
