Southeast Asia, Philippines, ca. early 20th century CE. A carved wooden folk art statue - similar to a Mexican santo - depicting Christ, draped in ochre robes with a red cloak and holding a book in one hand and the remains of a staff or flag in the other. This type of figure was probably made to be placed into an altar or nicho. Size: 4.8" L x 6.05" W x 16" H (12.2 cm x 15.4 cm x 40.6 cm)
Provenance: private D. C. collection, California, USA; D. C. is an Emmy Award winning Hollywood writer and Executive Producer, collected before 2000

Condition
Surface cracks in wood, especially on base, but nothing major. Small losses and chips to paint, with some areas of overpainting, as is common practice with figures like this. Whatever was in his right hand is partially lost.
