CHINA-YUNNAN ND 10 Cash Copper Pattern, AU. Extremely rare possibly unique. From 1982 HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL COIN EXPOSITION RARE COIN AUCTION(Lot 466). Unknown even to Tracey Woodward, who was the renown expert and specialist in the Minted 10 Cash Coins of China. Yunnan Province was one of the few that issued a small number of Ten Cash pieces in modern times. The establishment of a modern mint for striking coins began at Yunnan Fu by its installation with German machinery in 1905, but some of the machinery arrived in the end of 1906, the mint was not fully equipped by end of 1907. Its output of Ten Cash coins was not plentiful, and the small number of varieties known appears to confirm this statement. About 1911 a series of four silver coins without English inscriptions was issued: A Dollar (Y-258), a Half Dollar (Y-257 in large quantity and many varieties), 20 Cents (Y-256) and 10 Cents (Y-255). This Ten Cash piece is of the exact same design. Obviously intended to be part of this same series, apparently due to the unification of new standard copper coin design caused it not to be produced. It would seem proper then to consider this piece to be an Essay - and to have escaped detection and cataloging this long it must be an Excessively Rare one. There are no provincial series among the copper coins of Yunnan Province, this is the only coin inscribed "Made in Yunnan Province" and "Kuang Hsu Yuen Pao". Others are the Tai Ching Ti Kuo series. A recent Major Discovery. So Rare and Important it is difficult for us to estimate it's true possible value.
