ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC CHILDREN'S TOY 41-PIECE TEA AND PLATE SET, comprising a covered teapot, a milk jug, a 3" D sugar bowl, four cups and saucers, twelve 3 7/8" plates, twelve 4 1/2" plates, and six 4 1/2" soup plates, each with blue transfer pattern "Humphrey's Clock", which includes various scenes from Charles Dickens' "Old Curiosity Shop" including "Nell Finds Schoolmaster Reading", "Nell's Lonely Walk", and "Catching a Pony", each with spatter decorated rims. Some having printed mark "RIDGWAYS / W.R. S. & Co. / HUMPHREY'S CLOCK". Ridgways, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Circa 1890-1908. Teapot 4 7/8" HOA.
Thirty-seven undamaged; one cup with radial hairline on base with some discoloration; one saucer with minor chip to foot ring; one soup plate with minor hairline to foot ring; one plate with flake to underside rim; and milk jug with moderate crazing. Some with manufacturing flaws including loss of glaze on stilt marks, as made.
