Description
Europe, Venice (modern day Italy), found in Western Africa, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A beautiful necklace comprised of over 50 millefiori glass beads. Most have an emerald-green and/or teal blue color scheme with small and integral red, yellow, white, black, and periwinkle additions. The millefiori technique uses multicolored glass rods cut into cross sections to create their distinctive patterns. Trade beads played a major role in the age of European exploration and colonization, serving as currency on multiple continents. Strung in modern times, this is a wearable example of world history! Size of largest bead: 0.7" W (1.8 cm); length of strand: 31.25" L (79.4 cm)
