Item DetailsItem: Spiny Ceratonurus sp. Fossil Trilobite. Freestanding spines display. Unique amazing specimen! Origin: Devonian. Foum Zguid. Morocco. Weight (g): 370 Size/Dimensions: Fossil: 7,2 x 7,3 cm; Matrix: 10,9 x 9,4 cm. Taxonomy: Species: Ceratonurus sp. Family: Odontopleuridae. Order: Odontopleurida. Class: Trilobita.
Restoration details: Residual - Half of the right pygidial spine and the tip of the left big thoracic spine where reconstructed. They were missing as a result of extraction quarrying work and we decided to reconstruct them for aesthetic reason. This is a very natural situation, acceptable when in residual proportions, like in this magnificent specimen. It doesn't withdraw any value to it, as all the rest of it is natural and suffered no restoration. Most of it, a plate like this one is a real once-in-a-life piece. A real museum specimen and plate. This specimen comes from Foum Zguid, one unusual locality for this species, with a gorgeous particular matrix colour and texture. Foum Zguid/Jbel Gar El Zguilma quarries are now off limits to collecting due to military presence near Moroccan/Algerian border. Perfect specimens from there, like this one, will be scarce next years.
