Item Details
Description
New World, Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. 18th century CE. A gorgeous silver tray or platter, hammered into form. The base is gently curved, with sloping edges that flare outward into a decorative rim whose edges are lightly indented at regular intervals, suggesting the petals of a flower. A tiny flower is stamped into the center of the piece, perhaps representing a maker's mark. Aside from this flower and a thin incised border on the rim, the body of the vessel is completely undecorated, its hammered surface providing a gently undulating surface. Size: 12.5" W x 2.2" H (31.8 cm x 5.6 cm); 1.08 kg
