Description
A Pair of George III Sterling Open Salts & a 19th Century English Silver Open Salt. Including a Pair of Sterling 18th century oval form salts with cobalt glass inserts that are set within a pierced frame, all resting on claw and ball feet; stamped with maker's mark of "CH" enclosed within an oval, a lion passant, crowned leopard's head (London), and date mark of "R" indicating the year 1772. Also included is 1 English silver plate open salt with cobalt glass insert and silver frame with lion's masks and paw feet, stamped with maker's mark of "MS" within an ornate shield and "England". The Georgian sterling shows some lacerations, one frame has had some repairs-soldered is evident at all of the supports-the silver plate shows some scratches and some flakes to the glass insert. The pair measures 3 1/4" long x 2 1/2" wide x 2" high. The sterling totals approximately 3.5 troy ozs. ESTIMATE $200-300
