Imperial Chinese Silk & Gold Metal-Thread Yellow Turfan Dragon 'Palace Rug' (Qing Dynasty) 'Made For The Imperial Palaces In The Forbidden City Beijing', West China, 19th century, pure natural silk/gold-metal- threads/cotton-foundation, approx. 250 x 155 cm, condition: 2-3 (good condition), (provenance: from a south german private collection), very rare and valuable chinese imperial rug with imperial five-clawed dragon design on imperial yellow ground (hunting the pearl), made for the palaces in the forbidden city Beijing, while of the imperial dynasties there were strict regulations on the use of colors (the color yellow became imperial and nobody except the emperor of china could wear yellow clothes or own yellow utensils), very unique patterned yellow field with characteristic Turfan symbol-ornamentation border (Rugs from the region Turfan are a rarity and it is only few imperial carpets from the region known), museum quality, absolutely unique, highly decorative, (literature comp.: H.A.Lorentz, Chinesische Teppiche, 17 bis 20.Jahrhundert, p.146).
