1740 1ed ENGLISH Turnbull Classical History Theatre Masks Agrippa Gallery Verres

This rare 1740 book of essays contains three dissertations on theatrical and classical history by notable French authors - Claude-François Fraguier, Nicolas Boindin, and Abbe Vertot. Edited and translated into English, this work includes the following three works:

“Characters of Augustus, Horace and Agrippa”

Vertot

“On the Gallery of Verres”

Fraguier

“On the Nature, Origin, and Use of Masks in Theater”

Boindin

While the titles of these works suggest they are solely of French authorship, the essays were collected and completed by Scottish theologian George Turnbull. Turnbull had an affinity for teaching moral philosophy and much of this work represents this ideal.
