Willem de Kooning (April 24, 1904 - March 19, 1997) Dutch-born, American abstract expressionist artist.
O’Hara was involved in the art world, first as a reviewer for Artnews. He became Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions in 1960 for the Museum of Modern Art. De Kooning was one of his many artist friends. This is number 93 of the 1988 Limited Editions 550 copy publication of Frank O’Hara’s "Poems", with 17 lithographs of Willem De Kooning’s art, stamped at the end of the book with De Kooning’s authorized facsimile signature.
This is in its original clamshell case, which has a sunned border to its front, but which is otherwise in excellent condition, with no structural flaws, no substantial stains and no tears.
The book itself is in fine condition. The black nigerian goatskin cover (17.75" x 22"), with its 22kt gold lettering, is as new. The inside is also in perfect condition, with all text, and with the 17 lithographs, on Kitakata paper, as new. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. There are no tears or creases. The only extraneous entries are the copy number, the facsimile signature, and the confirmation that the facsimile is from an authorized source.
The accompanying photos are of this copy.
