Description
Description: ARTIST: BERNARD VILLEMOT (1911-1989) SIZE: 25 1/2 x 19 5/8 in./64.8 x 50 cm DESCRIPTION: Over a 30-year period starting in 1955, Villemot executed something like twenty designs for Orangina. Most of them featured red and orange swirls of some sort – beach umbrellas, hats, orange peels, spectacles, even hair curls – creating an indelible logo synonymous with a lighthearted, fashionable, French approach to life. This signed gouache maquette is the epitome of Villemot's Orangina sensation: orange and red swirls upon a periwinkle blue background, resolving themselves to become a sunhat, a woman seen from behind, and her arm extending to sip a bottle of that iconic fizzy orange stuff. (Food/Drink; Modern)
