Description
AMERICAN AND ENGLISH CERAMIC SYRUP JUGS, LOT OF TWO, comprising one by Knowles, Taylor and Knowles with white flower design on red ground and one with fruit decoration and green ground, each having hinged metal lid. Red example with printed "IRON STONE CHINA / KNOWLES, TAYLOR / AND / KNOWLES" mark to base and "PAT JUL. 16. 72. / VICTORIA" mark to interior of lid, green example with hand-brushed "2/8934" mark. Second half 19th century. 7 1/2" and 8 1/8" HOA.
Red example with scratches to the exterior and areas of moderate discoloration, lid slightly loose on hinge and scratches to interior rim; green example with spots of minor wear and a shallow chip to base.
