19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke of a frog on a cucumber. Excellent carving perfectly capturing alert attitude of the creature, its delicate paws and soft texture of the skin. Very clever use of natural features of the material, eyes and “pimples” on the cucumber are inlaid with brown horn, himotoshi is formed by the stem. Beautiful finish and patina, in perfect condition.
