xvi, 413 pp. With four maps, 3 of which fold out, pictorial frontispiece, and 49 illustrations from photographs, sketches, and drawings from nature. (8vo) 21x14 cm (8¼x5½"), half calf with marbled boards ruled, lettered and ornamented on spine in gilt. 



Educated at Cambridge and Edinburgh University, G.F. Scott Elliot became a lecturer at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College and ultimately a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He explored Africa in the late 1880s, presented findings to the Linnean Society, and was commissioned by the Franco-British Delineation Committee to define the boundaries of Sierra Leone. Previous owner's bookplate 

Condition
Wear to cover with rubbing and scrapes to leather corners; hinges cracked, mild toning to pages, foldout maps with small stub tears or panel splits; about very good.
