Description
East Asia, China, Macao (Macau) during its Portuguese occupation, ca. 18th century CE (bronze), 19th century CE (wood). A large, ornate, cast bronze model cannon. The surface is decorated with floral and leaf motifs, Greek key motifs, and relief discs and bulbous projections. Several Chinese characters are inscribed across the middle of the piece. The cannon rests on arms that end in floral terminals, and has a special wooden stand made for it. A fascinating reminder of colonial history. Size on wooden stand: 11.5" L x 3.5" W x 7.55" H (29.2 cm x 8.9 cm x 19.2 cm)

Condition
Dark patina on the bronze, with very nicely preserved details. The wood is probably a bit newer, from the 19th century, and is also in nice condition, with a dark patina and some light signs of wear on its edges.
