Early & Important Ningxia 'Large Pillar-Rug' (Probably Made For The Imperial Palaces In The Forbidden-City In Beijing) 'Qing-Dynasty', West China, circa 1800, wool/cotton, approx. 670 x 132 cm, condition: (heavy traces of age/use, oxidations, early repairs, painted foundation), very rare palace or monastery pillar rug made probably for a highly person in the forbidden-city Beijing, in the middle chinese warrior, in the upper part holy elefant with holy horse (under the horseshoe is a umbrella symbol which means that this pillar rug is made for a highly person or a public-official), the symbols are religious meanings like the flaming wheel, shell, endless knot, urn, fish and flaming-pearl, thepart below bowl with music-instruments (harp),shell, wheel of life and mountain 'Meruh', this type of large palace pillar-rugs are madeas pairs (the other pair of this pillar-rug was in the famous 'Te-Chun Wang' collection and was sold in a swiss auction house for a world record price for pillar-rugs), museum quality.
