Description
GEORGIAN GOLD, EMERALD, AND DIAMOND LADY'S RING WITH CELEBRITY ASSOCIATION, approximately 14K tested and possibly silver, cushion top set with central emerald surrounded by 31 rose-cut and other old-cut diamonds, closed back. Total ring weight: 12.8 grams. Accompanied by a letter stating that this ring was borrowed and worn on numerous occasions by Martha Graham, and a copy of "Martha Graham: Portrait of the Lady as an Artist" by Leroy Leatherman which includes a frontispiece photo of Graham wearing this ring. Three pieces total. 18th/19th century. Approximate 7 1/4 ring size.
Very good overall condition, emerald and several diamonds with chips/cracks, some expected high-point wear.
Provenance: Property of a Virginia lady.
Ex-collection of Benjamin Franklin Garber of Harrisonburg, VA and New York, NY.
Catalogue Note: Benjamin Franklin Garber was a student of Martha Graham and board member of her dance company. His correspondences with Graham are housed in the Music Division of The Library of Congress.
