Civil War US Army Issue Model 1863 .58 cal. Musket, Colt contract with Bayonet, muzzleloader fitted with the standard 40†round barrel and three barrel bands. Lockplate stamped “U. S. / COLT'S Pt F. A. Mfg Co / HARTFORD, CTâ€. Dated “1863†behind the hammer. Barrel markings of proof marks “V / P/ Eaglehead†on the barrel breech facet, the butt plate is marked “USâ€. 56" long, 74 1/2" overall with bayonet. Surface corrosion, pitting around percussion nipple.
