Late 19th century good size boxwood netsuke of a standing oni holding a huge club. Wonderfully carved in intentionally simplified manner similar to ittobori (one cut) style, great depiction of its slouching posture and slightly unhappy facial expression, nice wear and patina. Signed MASABUMI on the bottom - the artist is listed on p. 699 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Height 3 3/8 inches (87 mm).
