Description

Details: This figurative abstract expressionist bronze sculpture is signed by its creator, artist Salvatore Grippi.

The sculpture is dated 1966 and stands approximately 9" high.

Grippi (b. 1921), an important member of the New York School painters, worked and exhibited alongside several famous artists at the height of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the 1950s. His peers and contemporaries include de Kooning, Nevelson, and Kline. Grippi’s work has been exhibited at prestigious galleries including the Whitney Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Johnson Museum of Art. His work is in the permanent collections of many important museums in the United States, including the Hirshorn Gallery, the Whitney Museum of Art, and the Johnson Museum of Art. In 1968, Grippi established the art department at Ithaca College, where he taught until 1991. In 2011 he was honored with a solo retrospective at Cornell University's Johnson Museum of Art.
