Thomas G. Bradford was the author of the Illustrated Atlas of the United States that was first published in 1838. Unlike many atlases of the period, the work included extensive text in which each engraving was accompanied by explanatory articles on the history, economics and geography of the area, as well as a great deal of contemporary statistical information.
