Description
Terre Ferme du Perou du Bresil..'. Spanish Main. Brazil is also show by the French version (Terre de Sainte Croix) of the name which it was first named by Cabral, its Portugues discoverer in 1500 - Ilha de Vera Cruz ("Island of the True Cross")

  • Date Printed: Originally published by Guillaume de l'Isle 1703; updated and republished by Philippe Buache 1745 (These dates are printed on the map)
  • Image Size: Approx 69.0 x 52.0cm, 27 x 20.25 inches (Large); Please note that this is a folding map.
  • Type: Large antique 18th century atlas map, printed on thick, good quality paper with original hand colour/color and decorative title cartouche
  • Condition: Good; suitable for framing. Vertical crease adjacent to centrefold; light near-vertical crease to the left of the centrefold. Small inconspicuous repair to left hand side - no loss.
  • Verso: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is plain
  • Folding: This is a folding map.
  • Artist/Cartographer/Engraver: Guillaume de l'Isle / Philippe Buache
  • Provenance: The map was extracted from a composite atlas of early 18th century maps, the latest of which was dated c1754
