Tallis' beautifully illustrated map of Peru and Bolivia ncludes four charming vignettes: the city of Lima, Peru, the Bolivian mining center of Potosi, the town of Tarija in Bolivia, and a scene depicting the "swimming couriers of Peru." The map is delicately colored in outline and surrounded by a decorative filigree border.
John Tallis (1817-1876) was an English cartographic publisher. His company, John Tallis and Company, published views, maps and atlases in London from roughly 1838 to 1851.
