  • This impression is from the original edition of 1870

    Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891) was a Japanese painter and lacquerer of the late Edo period and early Meiji era. He was known as an enthusiast of Westernization in Eastern art, and also as a conservative traditionalist, creating an interesting mixture in his body of work.
