Description
Rare 16th century Russian Bronze Icon of Savior the Almighty, dated 1594. The Savior makes a blessing with his right hand, holding the Book of Gospels in his left. Relief inscription with liturgical text on the margins: "CHRIST THE GOD WAS TRANSFIGURATED ON THE MOUNTAIN AND SHOWED HIS GLORY TO HIS DISCIPLES." Dated in relief cast on the reverse - year 7102 (1594 in Old Slavonic). Top portion contains image of the Vernicle (Holy Face). Size 4.5 by 3". Restored.
