Description
Tiffany and Company (American (New York), founded 1837), circa 1878-1891. A scarce sterling silver water pitcher in the Olympian pattern of traditional form with domical foot issuing squat narrow waist surmounted by tall cylindrical body with everted spout and sweeping handle, with a frieze of heavy repousse figural decoration to body depicting classical mythological figures amid scrolling foliage, with a further band of repousse shells to foot, and reeded acanthine handle, the interior being gold washed. Underside with impressed mark "TIFFANY & CO / 7364 MAKERS 7924 / STERLING-SILVER / 925-1000 / M / 6 1/2 PINTS". Approximate height 9.75", width spout to handle 10". Total approximate weight 49.2 troy ounces. Note: the "M" element in the maker's mark indicates production during the directorship of Edward Moore (1873-1891) and the Olympian pattern was designed and produced beginning in 1878.
