Description
Huichol People (Mexico), 20th century. Collection of two figural folk art yarn works (sometimes called yarn paintings) laid to wood board from the Huichol People of Northern and central Mexico, comprising: Domingo González Robles (Mexican, 20th century), "Untitled (Figures with Candles)", yarn laid to board, depicting three figures with two lit candles on an orange ground, with inscription and signature to verso; Eligio Carrillo Vicente (Mexican, 20th century), "Untitled (Shamans with Deer)", yarn laid to board, depicting several figures (one more prominent), likely shamans, and a purple deer on a deep blue ground, with inscription and signature to verso; and Eligio Carrillo Vicente (Mexican, 20th century), "Untitled (Flying Figure)", yarn laid to board, depicting many figures, on with white wings, on a green ground, with inscription and signature to verso. Note: Huichol yarn paintings, or yarn works, are counted among the best known indigenous arts; yarn paintings are records of dreams and visions of Huichol Indian shamans.
