RARE Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989) "Arachne-Purgatory 17" Artist's Proof Colored Lithograph Professionally Matted & Framed - This rare piece is an artist's proof lithograph by Salvador Dali titled "Spiderwoman". The image was created to depict the ancient Greek myth of Arachne, a woman who boasted of her weaving skill and was cursed by Athena and transformed into a spider. This image depicts a haunting, hybrid of a woman-spider, as a couple watches her unnerving figure in the background. This piece is from a series of prints that illustrate Dante's "Divine Comedy". The piece is signed in pencil, and is marked "E.A." (artist's proof). The proof is in wonderful condition, and has been professionally matted and framed in a shiny silver frame. The piece (including the frame) measures 20.5" x 16.5". Please note: there is some slight foxing around the perimeter of the piece, however, it is hardly visible.
