Description
YOSHIDA, Hiroshi, (Japanese, 1876-1950): "Temple in the Wood", Woodblock, 15.75" x 10.625", stamp signed lower right, titled lower left, unframed. Yoshida was a leader in the new print movement (shin hanga) and was the only one to sign and title his work in English. He worked as a painter until his 40s when he became interested in woodblocks. He worked with Watanabe for a few years and became very involved in the printing process. Eventually he started his own print shop. Yoshida was an avid mountain climber and became known for his Alpine scenes.
Condition
Overall browning, tape remnants verso, pale scattered spots of foxing, ink blemish in upper right margin.
