Description
A late Victorian gold, banded agate and gem-set memorial pendant, with chain. The oval banded agate cabochon, within a black enamel and split pearl surround, suspending a black enamel and split pearl dome and cultured pearl drop, suspended from a fancy-link chain. Length of pendant 6.1cms. Length of chain 48cms. Weight 20.1gms. With associated case.
Overall condition good. Minor surface scratches/wear in keeping with general age and wear. Possible assembled from component of various ages. Enamel possibly replacement. Black enamel in good to fair condition, with some areas of light abrasion with some mostly small chips to the edge, some chips are larger and reveal the surface underneath the enamel layer. Personalised engraving to the reverse reads, 'Cecilia Farrer, died Jany 11th 1867 Aged 72. Reverse with glazed panel with hair. Banded agate black with white band, well saturated. Split pearls creamy-white to yellowish-white body colour, with pink overtones and fairly good lustre, most show typical blemishes and blisters to the naked eye. Cultured pearl white with pink and green overtones and good lustre, showing some slight blemishes to the naked eye. Stones in good condition with minor abrasions.
