Description
Far East, Nepal / Tibet, ca. early 16th Century CE. Solid bronze/copper votive depicting Manjushri with four arms, holding a Sword of Wisdom and flanked by two dancing Apsaras (female spirits of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology). Mañjusri is a bodhisattva associated with prajña (transcendent wisdom) in Mahayana Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is also a yidam. His name means "Gentle Glory" in Sanskrit. Mañjusri is also known by the fuller name of Mañjusrikumarabhuta, literally "Mañjusri, Still a Youth" or, less literally, "Prince Mañjusri". Size: 2" W x 3" H (5.1 cm x 7.6 cm)
