Description
IMPORTANT ITALIAN BRONZE BOX WITH MICROMOSAIC PLAQUES - Early 19th c. Jewelry Casket in heavy gilt bronze with magnificent inset micromosaic panels so fine that they look like enamel paintings, four ovals on the slanted lid and two on the front depict occupations, rectangle on top is of St. Peters Basilica, squares on sides depict the Roman Coliseum and the Temple of Vesta. All surfaces are engraved and have riveted edge decorations. The interior is lined with wood and was at one time silk lined, only the lid retains remnants. 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 4 1/4". Wear to gilding, mosaics are completely intact.
